November Newsletter

Good Afternoon, Parents! It’s a great Thursday!
We had some great events during October!  Bible Palooza  allowed us to present new Bibles to 25 of our 3rd graders and then spend several weeks teaching them how to use  it!  Now, each month, they will attend a "Bible Blitz" workshop at BLASt that lets them practice what they have learned; so send their Bibles with them on Sundays!
We also had a great 5th grade lock-in in early October: my favorite lock-in of the year!  We finished the month off with our Weird and Wacky Wednesday night of ReCharge with mummy hotdogs, spider pizza bites and monster cookies!

ReCHARGE isn't all about fun and games and food!  We spend each Wednesday Renewing our spirit with a Bible lesson, Relating with our friends playing games to reinforce the lesson, and then Relaxing before pickup so your kids aren't so wired when they get home.  If you haven't given ReCharge a chance, bring your children for the last few of 2014.  Wednesday at 6:30/ pick-up at 8:15.

We will finish with a  ReCharge special event on DECEMBER 3rd.  So mark your calendars!

Special Family Service- 5th Sunday  How better to kick off Advent then by having another family service where all children and adults worship together? On NOVEMBER 30th, children will join their parents in "big church" for a family service.  Nursery and preschool will be available at both hours for pre-k and younger.  The Sugarloaf Kids building will not be open that day.

Don't miss our Souper Potluck and Walk thru Bethlehem on December 14th.  This is a family event.  Families meet here at church in the Student Life building @ 5:00 pm with soups to share and then head over to Simpsonwood's Walk thru Bethlehem.  We had over 100 people at this event last year so if you have children 5th grade and younger, make sure to schedule this for December!  No registration required.

Our Family Christmas Eve Service will be at 4:00pm on December 24th with 2 other services offered at 6:00pm and 11:00pm.  Nursery is provided at 4pm and 6pm for children 4 and under.

Pueblo Pintado SHOEBOX MINISTRY COLLECTION
Sugarloaf Kids goal is to collect over 100 boxes for the boys and girls of this Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico.  For some of these children, it may be the only gifts they receive.  Pick up a flyer at the lobby counters to find out how to pack a box and turn it in by December 3rd.
Need an extra incentive?  If the children of Sugarloaf Kids collect 100 shoeboxes, then they get the chance to “Pie” Ms. Stephanie at BLAST on December 7th!

Here is what else you need to know!

Save the Dates:
November- Shoebox Ministry Collection for Pueblo Pintado (Deadline is December 3rd)
November 30- Family Service at 9:30 and 11:00 (NO BLASt)
December 3- Last ReCHARGE for 2014
December 14- 5:00 Souper Pot Luck and Walk thru Bethlehem
December 24- 4:00 Family Christmas Eve Service
December 28- 1 Service only at 11:00

Volunteer Report:
We would love more adults plugged into our Wednesday night program!  Contact sgawlak@sugarloaf.org to see how you can serve beginning in January- even if it is only once a month!
Looking for a way to get involved weekly?  We could use some dedicated "crew guides" beginning in January!  You don't have to teach a thing, but just show up on Sundays at one hour weekly and get to know a group of kids!  They need adults who want to build relationships with them.  Is that you in 2015?

Curriculum Corner:
For November, we are continuing our yearly unit on Discipleship with a look at the story found in Luke 10: 38-42.  It is the story of Mary and Martha and how they use different ways of serving Jesus.  Our Sugarloaf Kids begin to understand this month that God gives us all gifts and how we can use them to disciple to others.  They will learn that they make up a part of the body of Christ and how we need each other to grow his kingdom.

Remember, if your child is staying for 2 services on Sunday morning, they don't repeat a lesson.  We have 2nd service labs for children who are here all morning including:  Missions Lab, Games Lab, Movie Lab and Computer Lab.

The EDGE continues this month with the lesson "Dare to be Daniel" which calls them to live out their faith so that others can see it!

Offering and Missions:
The end of October had us totaling out our offering of the last two months with a total of $257.  The girls won the battle (again!) and Mr. Art was dressed up as the Pharaoh complete with makeup by a few girls at each hour.  Since the girls seem to always win the battle of the sexes, Mr. Art challenged the children to bring in 100 shoeboxes for Pueblo Pintado (which I have every confidence that they will do) and if they do, they may win a chance to "Pie" me.  So gather your shoe boxes, fill 'em up and send them back to us.  All of our offering will go to purchase more supplies for boxes and shipping costs.

October Newsletter

Good Morning, Parents! It’s a great Wednesday!
Fall is finally in the air!  We have several important things going on in October so let's jump right in!

BIBLE PALOOZA begins this Sunday morning and we have 22 children registered! We will present new Bibles to our 3rd graders at the 9:30 service on October 5th.  Parents should drop their child off  at BLASt as usual where they will attend their first Bible Palooza workshop before being escorted over to the main sanctuary.  All children will come in and participate in Communion and then the 3rd graders will be presented their new Bibles.  Don't forget to have them back each Sunday morning in October for the 9:30 service so that they can participate in each of the specially designed workshops just for them!  If you haven't registered your child, it isn't too late to do so.  I have just a few Bibles left.  Register online at sugarloaf.org.

The EDGE Lock In and Corn Maze is scheduled for October 10th.  This is one of the most fun activities we do all year for the 5th graders.  They won't want to miss it.  Make sure to sign your child up and any of their friends online at sugarloaf.org.  Children should be dropped off at 6:30.  Please feed them dinner before they come.  We will leave immediately for the corn maze and will have a late night snack of pizza around 10:30 or 11:00 pm.  Make sure that they have sleeping bag, appropriate clothes and toothbrush etc.  You may want to send a jacket with them as we will be outside after dark!

Our next ReCHARGE special event will be October 29th at 6:30.  Watch for more info on our "theme" and have your child begin preparing for a weird and wacky night!
This blog is the place to get all of the details on what is going on at Sugarloaf Kids.  If you haven't subscribed, do so today- sumckids.blogspot.com.

Here is what else you need to know!

Save the Dates:

October 5- Bible Presentation to 3rd graders at 9:30 service
October 5, 12, 19, 26- Special Bible Workshops for 3rd graders only
October 10- 5th grade EDGE Lock In and Corn Maze
October 29- ReCHARGE Special Event
December 3- Last ReCHARGE for 2014
December 14- Souper Pot Luck and Walk thru Bethlehem

Volunteer Report:
Do you like to teach a lesson? Contact sgawlak@sugarloaf.org and she can plug you in to teach a 35 minute workshop once, twice or all month.  All of the materials and lessons are provided.  Teachers needed at 9:30 and 11:00 every month.
Not sure if that sounds like something you would like?  Schedule a "shadowing" day and watch someone else teach!

Preschool has grown quite a bit over the last month so we now have to split the classroom at 11:00.  The 3's or "Ready Rockets" are in room G and the 4's (pre-k children) or "Pre-K Comets" are in room L.  Your children will not move up as they have a birthday but will stay in this room until promotion next August.  We would love to have some of our preschool age parents sign up to be subs for the school year.  Contact sgawlak@sugarloaf.org and let her know that she can call on you to substitute if needed!

Curriculum Corner:
We take a break from our typical workshop rotations this month to join the church in a "Stewardship" lesson.  The children will begin a unit called "PIGGY BANK UNIVERSITY".  We will have skits and object lessons at worship and children will learn how God wants us to Earn Money, Give Money, Save Money and Spend Money.  Watch each week as your child brings home a "Make It Stick" handout.  These will be great "conversation starters" for your family during the week.  If you have a 3rd or 5th grader, you will want your child at both services so that they can take advantage of their special classes this month (Bible Palooza and The EDGE) and also attend PIGGY BANK UNIVERSITY!

The EDGE finishes Bible Bootcamp this week!  If you have a 5th grader, challenge them to a "Books of the Bible" finding contest!  They should know them better than you!  Next, they begin a study of the book of Daniel in a curriculum called "Dared to be a Daniel".  This unit really strives to show them how to go out and "talk the talk" about what it means to be a believer.  Make it a priority to get your 5th grader here for the 11:00 service every week!

Offering and Missions:
October will have us completing the Boys vs Girls offering contest and we will be dedicating our offering for our own church's use.
Beginning in late October, we will begin talking about our "SHOE BOX MINISTRY".  We help supply around 150 shoeboxes filled with goodies to the boys and girls of the Pueblo Pintado Indian Reservation in Arizona.  As you know, this is a ministry that our church has been a part of for 10 years.  We want them to know that they aren't forgotten at Christmas.  Some of these children will only receive the one box that they are given by the members of our church.  Watch for the info to come home in a few weeks.
